POSSCON 2012
Wednesday, 01 February 2012 13:47

From today's mailbag:

Hi, I'm a member of the Columbia Linux User Group and I'd like to personally invite you to POSSCON 2012.

The Palmetto Open Source Software Conference, now in its fifth year, is one of the largest open source conferences in the Southeast and will be held March 28-29 in nearby Columbia, South Carolina.

The event will be headlined by Scott McNealy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems and one of the most influential and frequently quoted people in the history of IT. Other world-class speakers include Shawn Hartsock, Groovy/Grails developer; Larry Augustin; CEO, SugarCRM; Dr. Douglas Maughan, Director, Department of Homeland Security, Cyber Security Division; Jim Jagielski, Co-Founder and President, Apache Software Foundation; Chris Aniszcyck, Open Source Manager, Twitter, Inc.; and many others.

POSSCON brings together developers and business leaders together in a fun, professional environment to discuss and learn about the latest open source technologies and how to use them in your organization. Bringing the best of open source concepts to the business world is what makes this conference unique. In addition, the conference always has good turnout from the government and healthcare sectors, many of whom are still learning all that open source has to offer.

Please let me know if you have questions and we look forward to seeing you in March!

AUUG Honors Lindsay Cleveland
Tuesday, 02 August 2011 13:47

lindsay_smallThe long-time orgainzer of the Atlanta Unix Users' Group, Lindsay Cleveland was given a standing ovation of appreciation at the August 1, 2011 meeting. Lindsay has taken early retirement from Cisco as of last month. He and his wife are looking at moving to east Texas in the near future. Since the 1st Monday of the month falls on Labor Day in September, this was the last meeting that Lindsay was guaranteed to be attending. AUUG's first meeting was in March of 1985 and Lindsay's done a yoeman's job of keeping it running ever since.

When Lindsay's move to Texas is complete, he'll receive a plaque that reads:

Presented In Appreciation to
Lindsay Cleveland
August 1st, 2011

In recognition of three decades of generous support, patient mentoring
and tireless work to promote technical excellence and
professional development

and in small token to convey our deepest thanks and warmest regards

from the past and present members of the Atlanta Unix Users' Group
and Unix System Administrators in the Atlanta Area.

Joomla Users' Group Moving
Wednesday, 27 July 2011 12:57

The Joomla! User Group Atlanta is moving their time and location. They're now meeting at Matrix Resources near Perimeter Mall on the 2nd Monday of the month. The previous location was ok, but apparently double-booked the meeting room last month, so a change was in order.

Matrix has stepped up to the plate, allowing a number of local users' groups use their facility. So kudos and hearty thaks to them. Please use their services if you have a chance.

Moodle Anyone?
Tuesday, 07 June 2011 18:21
There's a local Moodle Meetup that's forming. For those not in the know, Moodle is an open-source Learning Management System (LMS) similar to the commercial product Blackboard. Looks like they haven't met yet, but maybe somebody out there can help get the ball rolling.
