This from today's mailbag. Interesting take on Meetup.com. Any comments?

I think this is the evil of meetup. I've tried multiple time to get the meetup folks wanting Perl meetups to come to Atlanta Perl Mongers. I don't think I've ever recruited someone that way. (Though in fairness, this iteration of APM did start on meetup.)

I think Meetup misleads prospective leaders into thinking that there is interest in groups when there really is not. You have to join groups to learn anything useful about them. I think that leads to "members" that were only vaguely curious when they joined and who will never attend an actual meeting.
