Ruby is a modern language that's gained traction with its Rails web application development framework. So much so that Ruby on Rails seems to be the de facto way to use this language. Championed by the folks at 37signals, it has a loyal following. They are now meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Centergy Building off Tech Square, details on their meetup page:

Ken Johnson is the CTO of Washington, DC-based nVisium, a code security firm. Ken has been working with Rails in both a development as well as security capacity since 2011. This unique vantage point, coupled with a healthy dose of Rails code reviews and development, led to the creation of Railsgoat, a free Rails-based security training platform.

Join Ken as he teaches the fundamental aspects of Rails security as well as counter measures that can be taken to avoid serious problems.

The course will demonstrate and discuss:

    •  Common Code Flaws - Exploitation & Defense

    • Common Misconfigurations

    • Free Defensive Tools

    • Security-based Unit-Tests

    • Regression Testing

*** Note that this meeting is happening at ThoughtWorks due to a venue scheduling conflict. ***

This month Ken Johnson will be flying down from Washington, DC to talk about Railsgoat -- a vulnerable version rails and includes vulnerabilities from the OWASP Top 10. Ken will discuss the project, share lessons learned, discuss defensive measures, and provide a technical demonstration of some of the more interesting vulnerabilities within Railsgoat.

The Atlanta Ruby Meetup is our monthly main event.

Parking on the street is metered. Tickets until 10pm.
There is $1.5/hour parking in a surface lot across the street near Barnes and Noble. Credit cards accepted. The once collapsed parking deck connected to the building is back in service! Cheapest parking is the surface lot across from The Cheetah, I believe they are $4/day cash only.
